The Hastings FLAG is one of six local FLAG's in England which are part of the EU’s European Maritime Fisheries Fund to “Invest in sustainable fisheries" and is administered by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) on behalf of DEFRA.
Hastings FLAG successfully supported 23 projects to improve the sustainability of the fleet and has recently been awarded a total of £800,000 for further projects for FLAG2. These projects will be delivered under Community-led Local Development under the themes of;
- Creating a sustainable fleet and supply chain
- Protecting the environment and informing the fleet through scientific research and business
- Developing the identity of 'The Place', through education, economic and brand development.
The Hastings FLAG is a highly representative body of individuals and organisations drawn from the fisheries, public, private and community sectors. The FLAG Executive Delivery Group (EDG) is a body of 6 members of the wider FLAG and is responsible for the day to day operations of the programme which is administered with support from HBC officers as lead accountable body.
Further information on the projects being delivered as part of the FLAG2 programme will appear on this website soon.
